Stream Water Management (Stream-Flo® Flotation Treatment System)
Everyone is very happy about the fact that the covered stream in a downtown area along with industrialization transforms into an ecological stream. However, water from the lower stream for stream maintenance requires great amount of energy. We do not realize that it is not economical as well as that it moves pollutants of the lower stream to the entire stream. Since water flows from the top to the bottom, and finally huge energy and pollutants are accompanied in the process of pulling up the water to the upper stream, it is obvious to have disturbance in ecosystem of the stream.
The fundamental solution for this problem is to build several small rainwater storages in the upper stream, or to infiltrate rainwater so that the stream can flow with only its own potential energy. Then, we will be able to enjoy the healthy and clean stream.
Also, management of Non point Source that flows into the stream is very important in order for the quality of water to maintain constantly. To manage this, we build small reservoir or Non point Source treatment equipment. In this case, we have to choose the best method based on regional condition. Since treatment equipment type requires great amount of maintenance management fee
for a long term, management is really important. If we fail in management, this equipment facility will make more sources of pollution rather than control pollution.
Other than Non point Source management, when direct management of the stream that fundamentally controls the sources of pollutions is devised, pure and clean water can be supplied in the long term.
Another solution of this matter is applying a technology that eliminates organic compounds in using streambanks, and an appropriate method in this case is sludge rising technique. Organic compounds in the stream floats and adheres with micro bubbles, and this technique enhances the treatment efficiency in short time.
Improving Water Quality of the Lakes
Management of lake water quality corresponds to that of the lower river. Generally,
the lake has a temperature gap of 0.9℃ per 1 meter of water level, but there is no more temperature change at a certain water level, and we call this phenomenon ‘Stratification.’
High-density bottom water exists in a deep lake where temperature stratification is formed, and it is a source of nutrients supply of Algae, which is the main reason for the water quality of the lake. The method of eliminating it is not easy, and we should approach the solution with on-Site concept.
It is hard to improve water quality of the lake with only one method. We should find a proper way based on a precise diagnosis for the lake, and establish application plan that considers all physical, chemical, and biological factors.
Dredging settlement of the lake deepens water depth and prevents nutritive salts from flowing. Deepening water depth of the lake reduces the production of phytoplankton.
There are several ways to get such effect like this: suppressing nutrients release from the settlement, an increase of water flowing for water quality management, and water circulation. Selective release of water from the lake, selective water flowing, Aerator & Circulation, and Flotation Treatment that eliminates nutritive substances enable us to manage water quality of the lake effectively.
There exists one ecosystem in the lake. Most appropriate way of controlling eutrophication of the lake needs a comprehensive approach such as regulation of water inflow and adjustment of ecosystem. To reduce eutrophication, we should predict future water quality and a change of biological history based on a precise data of past and current aquatic ecosystem. We can solve water quality problems of the lake through the effort reducing causes of eutrophication
and reasonable management of ecosystem in a small-scale drainage basin.
